About
SUN RICEis a Filipino-American diner and bar located in the heart of Portland's N. Williams corridor. Founded in 2021 by Ken Tran and TJ Cruz, we are a cultural space that celebrates Filipino-American food, community, and creativity.
Our journey started at a farmers market stand. From there, we grew into a pop-up residency at Deadshot Cocktail Bar, then operated as a kiosk at the Moxy Hotel downtown. In 2021, we found our permanent home on N. Williams Avenue — a neighborhood spot where we could truly build the space we envisioned.

During the day, we're a diner serving silogs (Filipino rice meals), sandwiches, and coffee. At night, we transform into a dinner destination and bar with cocktails and karaoke. This dual personality reflects the adaptability and warmth at the core of Filipino-American culture.
We add a 20% service fee to each check to support consistent, livable wages for our team. Tipping remains optional. This model reflects our commitment to taking care of the people who make Sun Rice possible.
“It takes a village to build and sustain SUN RICE. This is the team carrying tradition forward, adapting, and evolving it.”
